Best news of 2015 for Patti Smith fans (and book lovers generally), Miss Smith has written a follow up to first memoir, the incredible Just Kids – this one called M Train.
M Train will take readers on a journey through the artist’s mind – described as “a roadmap to my life” by Patti via her favourite cafes and coffee shops. Pausing at 18 different “stations” throughout, the book focuses on her deepest literary obsessions, as well as “the inevitable losses that come to us in life – and the consolation we might salvage from them.”
Wondering about the cover? Apparently it was shot at Cafe ‘Ino in Greenwich Village, where M Train begins, and where Smith went every morning for a breakfast of black coffee and brown bread. A passing photographer happened to snap the pic of Patti on the final day before the cafe shut down. She calls it “the first and last picture at my corner table in Ino… My portal to where.”
Due for release in October, rest assured it’s going on the Undone Book Club reading list! So excited!
