This year we’ll be bringing you some of our favourite lookbooks each season from New Zealand designers, and what better place to start than Ruby, mainstay of chic Kiwi girls since way back.
We caught up with designer Deanna Didovich on her Pre-Fall 17 collection La Collezione…
What was the collection inspired by?
I guess for this collection I was in a very Italian state of mind! While researching for the collection, I fell in love with the phrase ‘la gioia della vita’ or ‘the joy of life’ and I wanted to embrace what this meant to me.
What are some of your favourite pieces and why?
If I had to pick a few favourite pieces I would have to say the Raffaela Crochet longsleeve, the Bambi hotpants, and the Paloma set. But I really can’t choose a favourite as I adore all of it!
Some of the key colours/fabrications/details?
The colours of the collection are simple, summery and easy to wear. Lots of navy and khaki, with bursts of red, blush pink and balanced with a beautiful, sandy, golden nude. Fabrics range from airy linens and muslins to a delicate scallop-edged lace and polka-dot chiffon. My favourite detailing is the embroidery on the Fiore miniskirt and sundress.
If the collection had a mix tape, what would be on it?
Preferably nothing in English!
Share with us one little funny/unexpected/magical thing that happened while designing/producing/presenting this collection?
I had a vision for how this collection would look when it was complete, and I can honestly say that the end result was my dream come true. That, and I learnt a lot of Italian along the way!
