Yang Fudong: First Spring

Undone was lucky enough to attend the opening night for Auckland Art Gallery’s latest ‘Yang Fudong Filmscapes‘, and wanted to share our own favourite piece of the Shanghai-based filmmaker’s work – a short, beautiful, surreal black and white film for Prada’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection, titled ‘First Spring’ and inspired by the Chinese adage that ‘the whole year’s work depends on a good start in spring’ – quite perfect for right now we thought!

Yang Fudong is considered a rising star of independent film in China, and this exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to immerse in some of his latest and most significant works. There’s something particularly special about having the opportunity to be in Auckland Art Gallery in the evenings, so we’d highly recommend making a night of this experience with a touch of Lawrence Arabia and a glass of wine in hand.
